QUARTERBACK
Aaron Rodgers
———Seneca Wallace
*So much for retirement. Despite having “decided” to retire a few days ago per Jim Harbaugh, Seneca Wallace has now landed in Green Bay to back up Aaron Rodgers. While he’s far from a good option, it makes more sense to go with a veteran than the raw B.J. Coleman who will likely find himself either on the practice squad or on someone else’s roster.
RUNNING BACK
Eddie Lacy (hamstring) (3DB, GLB)
———John Kuhn (3DB)
———James Starks
———Jonathan Franklin
*With Harris on IR, Lacy looks like the clear cut feature back although John Kuhn is expected to get some play in pass protection and possibly at the goal line.
*Franklin has looked like garbage in the pre-season and played himself out of a legitimate role. Look for Starks to get the bulk of the carries should Lacy go down.
WIDE RECEIVER
LWR Jordy Nelson (knee – out 4-6 weeks)
———James Jones (WR3)
———Jeremy Ross
RWR Randall Cobb
———Jarrett Boykin
*Nelson had a nerve issue in his knee repaired on August 6th but the Packers are hopeful he’ll be ready for the start of the season. Last year, he dealt with ankle and hamstring issues so consider him a substantial injury risk.
*Randall Cobb could end up being a PPR monster, especially if Nelson is out for any period of time as Green Bay is looking to grow Cobb’s involvement in the offense.
*James Jones shined when given playing time last year and with how thin the Packers are on the outside, he should see a big spike in targets.
TIGHT END
Jermichael Finley
———Andrew Quarless
———Ryan Taylor
———Brandon Bostick
*Finley has been maddeningly inconsistent but supposedly looks good in camp. It’s a contract year for him so he may have extra motivation.
*Quarless has been more of a blocking TE thus far and it’s hard to see him doing much so long as Finley remains healthy.
KICKER
Mason Crosby
*Crosby restructured his contract so it looks like he’s sticking as Green Bay’s kicker. Should he continue to struggle as he did last year though, the new incentive-based structure makes it much easier for GB to replace him.
