QUARTERBACK
Philip Rivers
———Charlie Whitehurst (knee)
———Brad Sorensen

*Rivers is throwing more underneath passes in camp, as Coach Mike McCoy is installing more of a “quick-release” offense in San Diego (a la Peyton Manning); that likely bodes well for completion percentage and interception rates.

RUNNING BACK
Ryan Mathews (GLB)
———Danny Woodhead (3DB)
———Ronnie Brown
———Fozzy Whittaker
———Michael Hill

*Woodhead’s signing and Brown’s return solidifies everyone’s speculation that Ryan Mathews will strictly be a two-down back. There is virtually no chance that Mathews sees the field in passing situations.
*Charger coaches are enamored with what Woodhead can do; he will see a lot of action and have decent value in PPR formats.

WIDE RECEIVER
LWR Malcom Floyd
———Keenan Allen
———Seji Ajirotutu

RWR Vincent Brown
———Eddie Royal (lung, concussion – questionable for Week 1) (WR3)

*Danario Alexander’s ACL injury is brutal for this WR corps; it is now a very thin, limited upside group.
*Floyd isn’t really built for the new “quick-hit” offense but enters the season as a starter.
*Brown and Royal should get a decent amount of looks over the middle.
*Royal looks good to go for the season and should operate out of the slot for the Chargers.

TIGHT END
Antonio Gates
———Ladarius Green
———John Phillips

*Gates looks more fit this preseason, but only one tight end in history has had 1,000 receiving yards after they turned 33 years old.
*The increase of underneath passes in the new offense should favor Gates, but one must temper his expectations because of his age and decline in speed.

KICKER
Nick Novak

*Novak got a new four-year deal in the offseason, so he’s going nowhere
