QUARTERBACK
Colin Kaepernick
———Colt McCoy
———BJ Daniels

*Colt McCoy “won” the QB competition when he agreed to a pay cut. Don’t expect much from him if Kaepernick goes down given how he struggled in the pre-season.

RUNNING BACK
Frank Gore (3DB, GLB)
———Kendall Hunter (Achilles – probable for Week 1)
———LaMichael James
———Anthony Dixon
———Marcus Lattimore (knee – PUP/IR candidate)

*Gore is the obvious starter, but he is 30 this season and is not the most agile back. His O-line is great, but don’t except him to repeat last year’s 4.70 YPC
*Hunter is the best handcuff, and he is running well enough to be confident in his health
*Anthony Dixon won the final RB spot and Lattimore is not expected to contribute this year as he recovers from his knee injury.

WIDE RECEIVER
LWR Anquan Boldin
———Quinton Patton (WR3)
———Mario Manningham (knee – PUP/out until Week 7)
———Michael Crabtree (knee – PUP, out 12+ games)
———Chris Harper

RWR Marlon Moore
———Kyle Williams
———Jon Baldwin

*Without Crabtree for most of the year, the 49ers have virtually nothing they can count on at wideout except Boldin.
*Jenkins was shipped to KC in an exchange of busts for Jon Baldwin. One of the knocks on Baldwin was that he was slow to learn the playbook so temper expectations.
*Kyle Williams didn’t play during the pre-season due to injuries so he has fallen down the depth chart.
*Rookie Patton had a strong camp and locked up the WR3 position for himself. Don’t be surprised if he or Baldwin make a run at Moore’s starting job.

TIGHT END
Vernon Davis
———Vance McDonald
———Demarcus Dobbs
———Garrett Celek

*With the Niners so thin at wide receiver, Davis will line up there quite frequently. His value should rebound from its poor level last season.

KICKER
Phil Dawson

*Dawson is as reliable as they come, and his value should increase greatly with his move to a better team
